The revitalization of the historic East End has brought a new vibrancy to Lexington. Thanks to community support, the East End boasts handsome new housing, the William Wells Brown Elementary School and Community Center and the restoration of the Lyric Theatre. And soon, an innovative park – the Isaac Murphy Memorial Art Garden. The park pays tribute to the legacy of local resident Isaac Murphy, who was a champion jockey, three-time winner of the Kentucky Derby and the first individual inducted into the National Jockey Hall of Fame. The East End Fund supports revitalization projects, such as neighborhood beautification, signage, identification of historical sites and housing rehabilitation.
