Mission Statement Lexington Fairness is committed to achieving equal rights under the law, acceptance, and fairness for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people in Central Kentucky through local community action, grassroots advocacy, network-building and educational outreach.
Background Statement
Lexington Fairness has been a leader for advocacy and education for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people in the region since 1992.  In that time countless people have worked and celebrated for fairness.  Supporters have contributed money, talent, time, and other resources.  Through their efforts we have been able to advance visibility, respect, and policies and legislation to further our rights.
Having been a 501(c)3 nonprofit status since 2008,  Lexington Fairness has joined the Statewide Fairness Coalition in helping secure equal rights for all across the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
Impact Statement
Lexington Fairness is committed to the prevention of bullying in Central Kentucky's middle and high schools. Data indicates that too many students experience some form of harassment in school each year, including reports of physical harassment and assault. With the organization's key program, Project Speak Out, the knowledge needed for school allies to provide safe school environments for youth in Central Kentucky will be abundant. Project Speak Out fosters an atmosphere of diversity and tolerance, which helps all students learn in a safe school space.
Lexington Fairness continues action on Project Speak Out. Goals include meeting with Fayette County educators and school administrative staff to help secure a safe environment for children facing bullying, harassment and thoughts of suicide. The professional trainers brought in through this program will be able to provide the tools and resources to those who work with children every day, helping ensure all children feel secure, loved and understood.
Needs Statement
Lexington Fairness looks to the community for physical and financial support.  With a limited budget, we rely on our volunteer board members and community volunteers to fulfill the goals of the organization.  With no full or part-time staff, our work is completely executed by volunteers.
Our goals for Project Speak Out range from providing education to local schools to providing resources for suicidal youth and LGBT homeless youth.  This requires an enormous amount of resources, which we believe will equal at least $20,000 per year to fulfill and continue in Central Kentucky.
CEO/Executive Director Statement It is critical Lexington Fairness fulfills and completes our Project Speak Out programming.  This project will provide the needed education to our middle and high schools in helping prevent bullying and provide safe spaces for our students.  We need the community's financial and volunteer support to help make this program a reality.
Board Chair Statement
Lexington Fairness is a wonderful voice in the community, helping the views of the LGBT people in Central Kentucky to be heard.  We are so excited about the opportunities that have came to us over the past few years and the strong impact we plan to make in the near future.
We look forward to having as many from our community to join us as volunteers and help spread the words of fairness for all to Kentuckians.

Description Project speak out is devoted to providing a safe, secure and loving environment for all children, including LGBT youth.  Too many youth find themselves being harassed and bullied in school, ignored and shunned at home, leaving them with no place to turn.  This program helps educate school system staff to help these students feel safe and secure with their identity.
Budget $35,000

Program Short Term Success In the short term, Lexington Fairness hopes to see a successful training program instituted in Fayette County High Schools to provide teachers, counselors and administrative staff with the knowledge and resources they need to answer questions from students and help provide a no tolerance environment in their schools.
Program Long term Success
The success of this program will result in children feeling safe at home and in schools.  Gay-Straight Alliances will be supported in their schools and these youth will have resources to go to when struggling with their identities and the societal responses they will receive.
In the long-term, Lexington Fairness hopes to provide anti-bullying support, suicide prevention awareness and resources to help combat LGBT youth homelessness.
Program Success Monitored By Lexington Fairness will submit a questionnaire to participants in the training immediately and keep in touch with them after 6 months to see if they have recognized hands-on changes in their schools.  With this, we hope to see an adaptation to the current no tolerance policies to include sexual orientation harassment and bullying.
Examples of Program Success Since 2011 marks the initial year of success, we do not currently have examples.
Program Comments
CEO Comments With such a high percentage of students facing bullying and thoughts of suicide, Project Speak Out is geared to defeat the hateful speech and actions too many children face every day in schools.  This program will provide a safe space for all students in Central Kentucky.
