Mission Statement To restore health and value to the community through the unconditional love of Christ.
Background Statement In a response to love and to serve the community in a practical way, Southland Christian Church birthed a vision to establish medical and dental clinics to aid the uninsured in Jessamine and Fayette Counties. It was a response to the tremendous need for primary and dental care for the under-served within the community. Refuge Ministries, Inc., a non-profit organization, was created to accomplish this task. The Refuge Clinic operates as an expression of Christ and seeks to connect the hurting to health. We recognize that every life has infinite value and worth and aim to make true health obtainable for those we serve.
Impact Statement The mission of the Refuge Clinic is to restore health and value to the community through the unconditional love of Christ. We approach this through relational health care by loving and serving others where they are in the midst of their most basic needs. We offer primary medical, dental, and behavioral health care to uninsured and underinsured patients who live at or under 200% of the Federal poverty guidelines and live in either Jessamine County or Fayette County. All of our services are provided by volunteer physicians, dentists, nurses, and other professionals at no cost to our patients. The Refuge Clinic currently operates two locations. Since opening, the Refuge Clinic has: Gained over 3,500 patients between both locations and totaled over 11,000 medical and dental appointments. The clinic services have saved patients well over $8,000,000 in medical and dental costs. We have completed over 3,000 referrals for patients needing services such as medical specialist appointments, imaging services, or even surgeries. Medical Services Offered: Primary Care, Physical Therapy, Specialty Referrals, Pharmaceutical Care, Spiritual Care, Counseling, Psychiatric Care, Diabetic Education and Nutrition Training. Dental Services Offered: Extractions, Surgical Extractions, Composite Fillings, Cleanings, and on a limited basis, Dentures/Partials.
Needs Statement
1) We need volunteers! This includes physicians, dentists, nurse practitioners, nurses, dental assistants, administrative, and spiritual care volunteers.
2) Financial gifts are needed to meet the operational budget and provide opportunities to expand care services as well as maintain a high excellence in the equipment and supplies used to serve our patients.
CEO/Executive Director Statement Refuge Clinic operates with a relational healthcare model. We foster a strong sense of community. Staff, volunteers, and patients are equally committed to love and serve one another. We are holistic in approach and therefore create greater improvement in sustainable health for patients. Our clinic is not limited to traditional approach or systems in healthcare and authentic relationships allow accountability and empowerment that leads to better outcomes of health. Trust is established among the patients and the Refuge Clinic team and this allows patients to dig deeper in addressing physical and spiritual wellness. We are provided a unique opportunity to maintain a focus that it is not about insurance, but about care. The model of healthcare as demonstrated throughout scriptures will always remain relevant no matter what circumstances, culture, or systems to which you apply it. The Refuge Clinic replicates the example of Jesus to utilize health to love and care for others. Everyday people come to the clinic with physical suffering in search for hope and healing. They encounter a Savior who loves and values them and invites them to experience restoration. Relational healthcare is an investment to walk alongside of someone at their most vulnerable moment; to respond in recognition of their hurts and struggles with a commitment to walk it out together. It requires more but also produces more.

Impact Questions
IndicatorsHelpHow will the organization know if it is making progress? What are the key qualitative and quantitative indicators against which the organization assesses its progress toward its intended impact? Refuge Clinic has chosen not to measure success by systems and programs, but by the individual life transformation and health we see occur in each of our patients. We have encountered a great measure of success by meeting those in need right where they are. We are an expression of Christ, and people are coming to us in recognition of their needs, and in turn, they are encountering Christ. Since opening our doors over 7 years ago, we have taken on the care of over 3,500 patients who have found themselves on the margin, unable to receive medical, dental and optical care.We engaged over 1,000 medical and dental volunteers last year alone to love and care for those within their own communities. We provide a unique opportunity to move people from concern to action; to invest in those who are lost and hurting and in need of receiving help, hope, and healing.
