Statements
Mission Statement The mission of St. Claire Regional Medical Center is to proclaim God's goodness through a healing ministry to the people of eastern Kentucky.
Background Statement
St. Claire Regional Medical Center (SCR) opened its doors on July 1, 1963 as a general acute care hospital with 41 beds, nine nurses and six physicians representing three specialties (General Practice, Surgery and Internal Medicine). Today, SCR serves as a 159-bed regional referral center. The Medical Center is the largest rural hospital in northeastern Kentucky and has a service region that includes a population of over 165,000. The SCR Medical Staff is comprised of over 100 physicians, representing 31 medical specialties. SCR is a Catholic, not-for-profit hospital sponsored by the Sisters of Notre Dame in Covington, KY. Additionally, SCR is the second-largest employer in the region, with over 1,200 employees. In addition to providing services at the Medical Center’s main campus in Morehead; SCR’s operations include:
  • Cave Run Surgical Specialists
  • Morehead Medical Specialists
  • St. Claire Regional Family Medicine with locations in Frenchburg, Morehead, Olive Hill, Owingsville and Sandy Hook
  • St. Claire Regional Outpatient Center
  • St. Claire Counseling
  • St. Claire Regional HomeCare/Hospice
  • St. Claire Regional Family Medical Supply retail store
SCR also partners with UK Healthcare to offer services at the Morehead Cancer Treatment Center and Morehead Women’s HealthCare. The Medical Center is an established training site for the UK School of Medicine’s Rural Physician Leadership Program.
Impact Statement St. Claire Regional Medical Center is the largest rural healthcare provider in northeast Kentucky, serving an 11-county area with a population of over 165,000. The SCR medical staff is comprised of over 100 physicians representing 31 medical specialties. Last year we provided nearly a half-million patient encounters. Beyond the hospital in Morehead, SCR also operates family medicine clinics in five counties, an outpatient center with a variety of therapy services and a sleep lab, one of Kentucky's largest telemedicine hubs, and a home health/hospice program that serves eight counties. It isn't uncommon for our home health/hospice to staff to drive a million miles a year to care for their patients.
Needs Statement St. Claire Regional's desire is to continue to provide all of our current 31 medical specialties at the highest possible level. We strive to invest at least $3 million a year in equipment and capital upgrades to ensure that we continue to provide the best possible care. SCR is currently planning to build a new medical office building that will house surgeons and specialists in the Morehead Medical Group, as well as other ambulatory services in order to free up space within the hospital for other acute-care needs.
