Other ways to donate, support, or volunteer We are always in search of current style, lightly worn professional clothing for our clients. This includes dress casual, blouses, skirts, pants and suits. Clients can also use accessories such as jewelry and purses. Because of our diverse clients, cash donations or gift cards are preferred for purchase of hosiery, under garments and shoes.

Statements
Mission Statement God’s Closet provides women with career assistance and professional clothing to gain adequate employment and achieve self-sufficiency.
Background Statement God's Closet serves women of all ages and backgrounds who have the initiative to gain employment.  All clients are low-income, referred from social service agencies, and have experienced any one or more of the following circumstances:
  • Loss of employment
  • Incarceration
  • Substance abuse and recovery
  • Domestic violence
... and many more situations leading to lower self-esteem and feelings of helplessness.

God's Closet is a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit organization founded in 1992, receiving tax exempt status in 1994.  The organization is run by a volunteer executive director and all volunteer community board who provide not only governance but also program support for the organization.
Impact Statement
Over the past three years, God's Closet has created The Purple Lunchbox, a social enterprise program. The catering program has provided employment, with above minimal wage, to over 35 women while also providing job skills training for an additional 100. God's Closet also serves approximately 150 women each year with clothing and other needed necessities.
Needs Statement
God's Closet is fully funded by individual support. Our greatest needs:
1. Kitchen supplies or funds for purchase. The women are in need of tools for better customer service and food preparation. $500-1000.
2. Purchases through Purple Lunchbox. If you are in need of catering, please consider the impact of our social enterprise and look to us to fulfill your breakfast, brunch, or lunch needs. Our prices are competitive and provide an additional social impact when buying your food.
3. Skills training funding. While we provide our women with as much skills training as possible, those costs are not passed on to the customer of The Purple Lunchbox, yet we still need to pay them for their time as well. This cost is approximately $8,000-$10,000 per year

Board Chair Statement
Thank you for stopping in and reading about God's Closet. God's Closet is a very unique organization, serving the needs of many women each year. Most concerning to us are women coming back into the working world but have significant barriers to employment, primarily criminal histories. These are devistating to our women who have worked so hard toward becoming independent again but are turned away. These barriers are what drive me and my board members to helping these women. The best feeling and payback for our work is seeing a woman succeed in her work and achieving self-sufficiency. We have had several clients leave our programs after starting their own businesses, developing an employment history and able to find a job or continue their employment with us. In the information provided here, I hope you see the value God's Closet is providing the Lexington and central Kentucky community and choose to donate to God's Closet.
Sincerely,
Lynn Beard

CEO Comments Currently, because our organization's budget has been roughly $5,000 annually for the past 20 years, we have not had the financials audited. In the future because of the social enterprise program, we will be looking into conducting an audit of our financials as needed.
