Statements
Mission Statement The purpose of ECCO, Inc. is to share the gospel of Jesus Christ, to promote Christian values, to provide resources, people-power, commodities, and other goods in social ministries to meet the needs of people in and around Letcher County, KY; to provide opportunities of fellowship for the residents in and around Eolia, KY.
Background Statement ECCO was started in 1987 by Brenda Gross to meet the needs she saw in her community.  As mines closed and people were left jobless, a growing concern for their welfare was felt by several local people.  In 2001, ECCO, Inc. was born, becoming an independent, non-profit organization.  Letcher Co. is among the top counties in poverty statistics.  Eolia, an area often referred to as "the forgotten part" of Letcher Co., is seperated from the main part of the county by Pine Mountain.  This barrier impedes county services and attention.  ECCO's ministry touches many people, serving their physical needs and witnessing the love of Christ.  ECCO seeks to meet individual needs by providing food, household items, clothing, personal care items, and home repair.  ECCO provides space for community gatherings and meetings, activities, classes, and housing for volunteers working in the community.  ECCO partners with agencies seeking to address the needs of home health patients, elderly, students, and families in Letcher County.  ECCO's strength comes from community volunteers helping with the various ministries and its partnership with churches, organizations, and individuals.

Board Chair Statement
Born and raised in the mountains of Eastern Kentucky, I grew up aware of the needs of the people living here.  With coal mining as our major industry, poverty just became a way of life.  The surrounding mountains formed a barrier of sorts separating us from the rest of the world.  Eolia Christian Community Outreach, Inc. (ECCO) evolved from a small storage space located in my business when I was given some clothing to distribute in the community.  It was then I realized what the Lord wanted me to do during my time and space on this planet.  My passion is to be the hands and heart of Christ to those I am called to serve.  Clothing, a monthly box of food, or a wheel chair ramp mean a lot to those with so little.

We live in a community with less than 1% minority population, so it is not realistic for ECCO to achieve a more diverse board.

Description
Every month, ECCO sends 100 treat bags to the Letcher Co. Prison.  Each bag contains several snacks and some Biblical literature.  We do this to be a postive influence and to show love to those who many people reject.  ECCO has also provided an opportunity for those who are required to do community service.  The time spent volunteering at ECCO has been a stepping-stone to making life changes.  We would like to be able to provide more opportunities for community service.

Description
ECCO's facility is available for community use.  The community room is available for community-wide meetings such as Neighborhood Watch, UNITE, Park Committee, Christmas parties, and reunions.  In the past, ECCO has sponsored aerobics, computer classes, and craft classes.  This year, we would like to offer quilting bees, jewelry-making, and dinners.  ECCO also sponsors a community-wide Bible study and has hosted music groups, a Christmas program, and a revival.  Kids Time, a music and art program for preschool and homeschooled children and moms, meets weekly in the community room.  In the summers, ECCO hosts MCC SWAP volunteers who do home repairs for low-income households in the community.

CEO Comments
As an organization serving in southeastern Kentucky, we have many opportunities to meet the needs of our community.  We are located in a rural community with lack of employment opportunities, an aging population, high rates of drug use, and high poverty rates.  We are blessed with community support, volunteers, and in-kind donations.  Our challenges include finding new sources of funding and staff to facilitate new programs.  It is sometimes difficult to choose between the needs we can meet and those we cannot.  There are always needs that go unmet for lack of funds.
