Board Chair Statement

It was during a VBS in Trinidad that Pastor Bechew heard the gospel for the first time. He told his Buddhist father at age 7 that he was going to become a disciple of Jesus The Messiah and was then kicked out of his house for several days. Pastor Bachew slept in a tree in the backyard of his family’s property until his mother fought hard enough for his father’s acceptance of their child’s decision. 35 years later, Pastor B’s entire family along with hundreds of Trinidadians have come to know this gospel through VBS, community outreach, school programs, worship and community groups from the pastor’s ministry center that has hosted hundreds of mission teams over the years.

I had the privilege of connecting with pastor Bachew 10 years ago, and since then GO International has sent almost 100 individuals to volunteer and work with his ministry as well as leaders like him in 16 different countries. It is stories like this that drive and motivate my work. Originating from a small town in Kentucky, I have seen the value of tight-knit community as it has impacted my life greatly; my own faith was ignited by the network of authentic Christian community. I strive to be a part of the weaving of this type of community all throughout the world through sustainable ministry. The Church in America is comfortable and I am convinced in great need of opportunities to be put outside of that comfortability. Matthew 9:37 reminds us that the harvest is plenty and GO International has the rare opportunity to be apart of calling Christians into opportunities to be laborers for the Kingdom through missions work.

I have the unique opportunity to bridge both those who are in need of laborers and those who are in need of a harvest to work together in seeing the fulfillment of the Kingdom of Heaven on earth. I get to hear about the work of the Kingdom regularly, whether it be in a testimony of someone’s renewed faith in Jesus from a missions trip or the anointing of new building to host members of the Church in Haiti.

I find a new challenge in motivating and inspiring this next generation into service, community and passion for missions. I have watched the act of giving slowly losing imminence and priority, even within the Church. Hands on experience is now becoming possible all over the world - volunteers from every religious or non-religious background are becoming the first responders to crises all over. I want to see first responders offering not just service, but also the miraculous truth of Jesus’ endless grace, redemption and provision for His people. I want to see Christian’s regain the title of “first responder”. I am challenged by how to stay financially afloat and continue recruiting laborers for the Kingdom just as much as I am challenged to seize any opportunity to share and encourage our Christian community of the good work being done through missions.
