Mission Statement Lex-Care, Inc. strives to be an organization of service providers dedicated to addressing the unmet needs of the community through emergency funding, in-kind assistance, and education in partnerships with other agencies. Lex-Care, Inc. desires to be a stable, prominent presence in the community responsible for coordinating a comprehensive network of service providers to fulfill unmet needs.
Background Statement In the spring of 1989, a media committee of Lex-Care began conversations with area television, radio, and print media organizations. This effort was attempting to combat homelessness and prevent people in need of financial and material assistance from falling through the "cracks" in the local social service system due to lack of system wide resources. The media subcommittee submitted the idea for a column to provide information on the poverty situation experienced by individuals in the community. At that time, it was also suggested to provide information on services that are needed to lower the barriers of self-sufficiency. It was presented as an opportunity for individual community members to respond to needs in the Lexington regional area. The plan was for the column to also give report back to the community the successes of personal actions of giving. This column was seen as a means of providing concrete ways for community members to get involved.

At that time, the Lexington Herald-Leader began developing their Community section of the paper. This meshed well with the idea of the Lex-Care column and the first "Make a Difference'' column appeared in the Herald-Leader on May 17th 1989. Also, a segment entitled the same was aired twice a week on UK' s public radio. The radio segment received a four minute slot bi-weekly.

In the years since it's founding, Lex-Care has become a completely volunteer run agency, partnering with over 110 agencies across the Bluegrass to help meet the needs of Kentuckians who needed a helping hand in a difficult time. Lex-Care has continued to give at least 90 percent of the donations received to the programs that directly impact families in our communities, holding administrative costs to 10 percent or less of donations received.

Impact Statement

As a completely volunteer run non-profit it is Lex-Care's goal to give as much of the donations received, back to our programs to benefit the people of Kentucky who are needing some assistance to get them through a tight spot. We were thrilled that in 2018, 98% of all donations went to aid Kentuckians with their unexpected emergency needs.

In 2018, the Lex-Care RIDES program was able to assist 54 individuals with transportation to job interviews, work, and medical appointments.

In 2018, the Lex-Care Financial Assistance fund was able to assist 88 families with emergency financial assistance with their rent, utilities, medical bills, and mortgages.
In 2019, Lex-Care wants to reestablish it's DIAPERS program to aid families in need with an emergency supply of diapers when they need their financial resources to cover other necessities. It is our goal to open two distribution centers in 2019.
In 2019, Lex-Care wants to be able to assist 97 Kentucky families with emergency needs that they may encounter.
In 2019, Lex-Care wants to be able to  60 individuals with transportation to work, job interviews, and medical appointments.
