CEO/Executive Director Statement Our volunteer fire department is unique in that it consists of men and women of all ages who are dedicated to serving a community comprised of elderly, retired and low socioeconomic status.
Board Chair Statement SMVFD have faced many challenges in opening the doors.  One of our biggest obstacles was financial issues.  We began with a fire truck given to us from a joining fire department and a garage.  With the help of coal severance money and state funding, we were able to construct a building.  Our volunteer fire fighters spend many hours of time to complete the building.  Another challenge we had to face was obtaining KY compliant equipment.  We continue to struggle with trucks that are 25+ old.  Recruiting volunteers are a challenge each year.  We hold a Community Day each year to  introduce ourselves and our department to the community in hopes of getting new recruits.
