Background Statement The citizens of South Magoffin Community recognized the need for a volunteer fire department was organized through South Magoffin Community Activists Group.  South Magoffin Community is approximately 20 miles from the county seat where the rescue department is stationed.  To get a fire truck, or emergency assistance takes up to 30 minutes to the remote areas of this community.  Through a lot of hard work and ....     The South Magoffin Volunteer opened their doors for service to the community in 2010, then in 2011 had to reorganize in 2011 due to management issues.  SMVFD began making runs in the summer of 2013 and are continuing to serve our community in Emergency situations.
Impact Statement
Accomplishments from the past year are:
1.  Received handheld radios and radios in the fire trucks
2.  Acquired some basic tools to equip the fire trucks
3.  Acquired a Tahoe and equipped it with some basic EMS  equipment such as oxygen.
4.  Received training toward meeting our 400 hours of state training as well as 2 more individuals becoming KY State Certified with 150 hours.

Our goals for the next year is to:   recruit more members, continue equip our used fire trucks to state standard, writing grants assist in purchasing a much needed fire truck since all of our trucks are 25+ years old
Needs Statement Finances for a new fire truck to use CAFs Foam since we do not have fire hydrants in our area, more volunteers, finances to continue to equip our used trucks and Tahoe with EMS equipment.
CEO/Executive Director Statement Our volunteer fire department is unique in that it consists of men and women of all ages who are dedicated to serving a community comprised of elderly, retired and low socioeconomic status.
Board Chair Statement SMVFD have faced many challenges in opening the doors.  One of our biggest obstacles was financial issues.  We began with a fire truck given to us from a joining fire department and a garage.  With the help of coal severance money and state funding, we were able to construct a building.  Our volunteer fire fighters spend many hours of time to complete the building.  Another challenge we had to face was obtaining KY compliant equipment.  We continue to struggle with trucks that are 25+ old.  Recruiting volunteers are a challenge each year.  We hold a Community Day each year to  introduce ourselves and our department to the community in hopes of getting new recruits.
