Mission Statement

 SHARE Kentucky Mission Statement

SHARE Kentucky is a member of the MANA SHARE network.  SHARE stands for "Services for Human Advancement and Resource Enhancement."  SHARE Kentucky is a human services provider and social justice advocate. The vision of SHARE is to mobilize people of good faith  around an activist agenda of community service that strives to provide needed human services and to advocate for the physical and spiritual (psychological) needs of the inner-city communities of Lexington, and in particular the neighborhood in which the Center is located.

SHARE Kentucky’s goal is to assist in the development of individual, family and community self‑sufficiency, and to provide the tools and guidance needed to help individuals become healthy, whole, righteous human beings.

SHARE Kentucky mission is motivated by God's command to do good in the world, to stand up for justice and to help the weak and needy.  God  says in the Qur'an: “And what will tell you what is the high road?  It is the freeing of the bondman. It is providing food on a day of hunger, to an orphaned relative or a needy person in distress."
Background Statement
The idea of  "SHARE' grew out of needs that developed as a result of the financial crisis following the fail of Lehman Brothers.  Many people were thrown out of work and the demands on social service agencies was staggering.  At the same time a maturing Lexington Muslim community was looking for a way to give back to the community and to fulfill the religious obligation to be charitable.  What better way to fulfill that requirement to be charitable than to help those most in need?  SHARE was born.  And, as the demand for services grew and a relationship between SHARE and the community developed, we knew that SHARE should and would remain and grow with our neighborhood.
Impact Statement In FY2014 SHARE Kentucky has seen appreciable increase in the number of clients served and services provided, as well as an increase in the number of partnerships and volunteers.  Last year the number of clients served by SHARE, including, employment services and job fairs, food and clothing bank, hot meals to homeless, Saturday lunches, winter clothing and blanket drive, free flu shots, GED classes and re-entry counseling totaled nearly 6,000 families and individuals.  In FY2015 we hope to double the number of clients who will receive employment services.  We have received volunteer commitments from ten physicians and health professional and are working to have a free clinic up and running in the fall of FY2015. An after-school homework help and math tutoring program has recently been organized through a partnership with UKY MSA and is expected to serve up to 20-30 neighborhood middle and high school students weekly and will run concurrent with the Fayette County academic calendar.
Geographic Areas Served
SHARE Kentucky seeks to serve any resident of Lexington-Fayette regardless of race, national origin, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability or age who needs and may avail themselves of our services, in general, and in particular, the community surrounding the "SHARE Center": Georgetown Street area and adjacent neighborhoods.
