Mission Statement
Our "Equine Assisted Therapy and Equine Assisted Psychotherapy Program" will provide at risk adolescence basic life skills while building their sense of responsibility and enabling them to make a sound decisions and increase their self image.  Life skills development is essential in helping young people acquire the necessary skills that enable them to reach their full potential.  At-risk youth especially are in need of developing these skills.  But what is the best method for improving life skills of at-risk audiences?  We will show that providing life skills learning through equine assisted learning, typically a non-traditional program for youth, over an extended period of time rather than as a short time interest project  is much more effective with at-risk populations.

We will be servicing both juveniles that have been adjudicated/committed with substance abuse as well as those that have not been adjudicated with substance abuse.  Our program targets children from low income families between ages 12-17.
Background Statement Over the past 12 years we have incorporated 20 years of experience learning and perfecting the concepts of natural horsemanship.  Studying the relationships of horses and trouble teens this has enabled First Step Recovery Ranch to show how horses and juveniles have a lot in common.  Since horses exhibit unconditional love, interaction between a horse and youth help create a level of security which allows a youth to open up and this promotes healing.
Impact Statement First Step Recovery Ranch has been highly successful working with the Madison, Clark County and Berea working  with the Juvenile Court System which has the lowest repeat offenders for youths on diversion due to our Equine Therapy Program.
