Mission Statement Legacy Greenscapes provides leadership and financial support to Legacy Grove park and other green spaces in Winchester and Clark County, Kentucky.
Background Statement

Legacy Greenscapes, Inc. (LG) was founded as a nonprofit organization in 2017 to provide leadership and financial support to promote green spaces located in the City of Winchester and Clark County Kentucky for generations to come. Its primary purpose is to govern and manage Legacy Grove, the Traveling Trail and other public spaces so that community members can freely enjoy clean, safe, and beautiful parks.

Legacy Grove was designed and developed with input from the Clark County community to be an iconic space that establishes a legacy of well-being for the community. It’s an inclusive 31-acre park with features for people of all ages and abilities. The park continues the healing mission of the community hospital that was located on the site from 1967 to 2012.

Community members created guiding principles for the project, and envisioned it to be:

  • Mentally and physically inspiring;
  • Geared toward family and individual activities;
  • Educational;
  • Environmentally friendly infrastructure; and,
  • Add cultural and economic value to the community.

The park includes a 2-acre Adventure Play Area that is fully enclosed play area offering a variety of activities to promote movement, play, social interaction, problem solving, and curiosity. To help design the adventure play area, a Youth Design Team of 25 local fourth through sixth graders participated in a three-day workshop to become experts in children’s play. The group included children from public, private and home schools, and of all abilities. The youth investigated, researched and discovered forward-leaning play options that create inspiring spaces for engaged learning and play. The Youth Design Team’s recommendations focused on social and imaginative opportunities and are the inspiration for the play area being built today.

The Traveling Trail is a mowed walking path around a beautiful KY hay field at the corner of Colby Road and Bypass Road in Winchester. The walking path is about one mile and has gently sloping hills. The land was dedicated as a walking path for the community in 2008.

Legacy Greenscapes relies on contributions to operate Legacy Grove and the Traveling Trail. Your contributions are an investment in the health and well-being of our community. Parks offer a space for people to imagine, play, exercise, reflect and connect with neighbors. Your support is needed to continue to have a clean, safe, beautiful and free park.

Needs Statement

Legacy Greenscapes relies on contributions to operate Legacy Grove and the Traveling Trail in Winchester, KY. Parks offer a space for people to play, exercise, imagine and connect with neighbors.
