Statements
Mission Statement The Serve Kentucky Foundation is a nonprofit established as a direct support organization for Serve Kentucky, the state's service commission. The Foundation raises funds to support Serve Kentucky's programs, which put AmeriCorps national service members and volunteers in schools and communities across the Commonwealth.
Background Statement
Serve Kentucky Foundation was established in 2018 under a preexisting nonprofit organization - Volunteer Kentucky! Inc., now d/b/a Serve Kentucky Foundation. Serve Kentucky Foundation is a nonprofit established for the purpose to support the mission and purpose of Serve Kentucky, the state's service commission. This includes supporting and engaging Kentuckians in volunteerism and service to positively impact our communities. The Board of Directors consists of current Serve Kentucky Commissioners, former Commissioners, and supporters of volunteerism and AmeriCorps national service.
Impact Statement Serve Kentucky Foundation is a new nonprofit organization to support Serve Kentucky (effective July 1, 2018 formerly known as the Kentucky Commission on Community Volunteerism and Service), the state's service commission. Serve Kentucky Foundation established an Endow Fund with Blue Grass Community Foundation in July 2018. Our goal is to raise funds to build our endowment fund to support Kentucky's AmeriCorps national service programs, build capacity of nonprofit organizations in partnership with Points of Light's Service Enterprise Initiative and provide services and resources when disasters occur.
Needs Statement
Serve Kentucky Foundation primary goal is to increase the amount of funds in the Endowment Fund. We meet the minimum requirement of $2,500 to establish the fund with Blue Grass Community Foundation. Our goal now is to increase the Endow Fund to a minimum of $10,000 and build upon that initial investment. Serve Kentucky Foundation will brand the Foundation to raise awareness and to promote opportunities to support AmeriCorps national service programs, nonprofit capacity building and resources during disasters. We will establish an online presence and develop communication/marketing materials. We estimate the cost will be $3,000 minimum to brand and print materials. As we move forward, Serve Kentucky Foundation will provide professional development and learning opportunities for AmeriCorps members and program staff and nonprofit organizations to learn best practices for building their organizations with the use of skill-based volunteers to meet needs in their communities. The goal is to raise an initial amount of $10,000 to support this program.

Volunteer Kentucky! Inc., a non-profit organization, was established several years ago and was a dormant organization historically - inactive other than filing the necessary documentation with the Kentucky Secretary of State and the Internal Revenue. Volunteer Kentucky! Inc. was formed to support the Kentucky Commission on Community Volunteerism and Service (KCCVS), the state service commission.

Kentucky Senate Bill 132 amended KRS 18A.115 that changed KCCVS name to Serve Kentucky effective July 1, 2018. Pending the implementation of the legislation, Commissioners and supporters of national service resurrected Volunteer Kentucky! Inc. to Volunteer Kentucky! Inc. d/b/a/ Serve Kentucky Foundation.

Serve Kentucky Foundation established an Endow fund with Blue Grass Community Foundation. As of August 1, 2018 there was $2,550 in the fund. Serve Kentucky Foundation will support the mission of Serve Kentucky the use of volunteerism to meet community needs.

Foundation Staff Comments Serve Kentucky is in good standing with the IRS. However, the organization has been inactive for the past several years and had no financial activity to report.
